After being told by a physician...

After being told by a physician that a skin disorder that completely covered my body was something I would have to make up my mind to live with, I was very much disturbed and fearful; and that night after retiring I prayed that something might be discovered that would heal me, thinking along the lines of materia medica, since that was all I had ever known. This disorder, I was told, was caused by lack of oil in my body.

Two days later a former neighbor came back to our city to visit and came by to see us for a few minutes. I had not wanted to see anyone, knowing how terrible I looked, but this loved one could see my need and came and put her arms around me and said, "My dear, God loves you." I had never heard such beautiful words.

She talked to me of God's love for His children and said He did not send sickness to His children. Therefore I did not have to accept it and could be completely healed. She told me she was a Christian Scientist and offered to bring me the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, if, after I had discussed the matter with my husband, it was agreeable to both of us that I should accept the book.
