Giving a Christian Science Treatment

We are sometimes surprised to hear earnest students of Christian Science say, "I do not believe that I know how to give a treatment in Christian Science." Mrs. Eddy has given many helpful directives on this subject in her writings; so we are not without the necessary guidance required to do this work.

No doubt the one who claims he does not know how to give such a treatment would, if faced with a severe test or crisis, rise spiritually to affirm truths of his real being that would be helpful and healing. This proves that the consciousness of an earnest Christian Scientist is fundamentally so at one with Mind, God, that when an occasion arises which requires immediate correction, he can avail himself of God's ever-present spiritual ideas in all their omnipotence and glory.

However, to be able to claim dominion over erroneous habits of thought, it is necessary for the student to learn to work from the basis of Spirit, Truth, and its ideas. Mrs. Eddy states in Science and Health (p. 504), "The rays of infinite Truth, when gathered into the focus of ideas, bring light instantaneously, whereas a thousand years of human doctrines, hypotheses, and vague conjectures emit no such effulgence." We cannot let our thoughts be scattered; they must be brought to a centralized point of Truth to oppose the false belief to be destroyed.
