In the year 1928 I heard about Christian Science for the first time. A woman who had just arrived from the United States brought it to me. She was a Christian Scientist. For many years I had attended the state, church. She and I began to talk about religion and also about disease. I told her that since childhood I had suffered from dizziness and later from heart trouble, arthritis, and many other ailments. She then told me about this Science and said that it was possible to be healed by studying the Bible in conjunction with Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, if one was honest in one's thinking. She recommended that I try Christian Science, and I did. I was healed of all my ills on my first visit to a practitioner, who said that the healing had taken place because I had touched the hem of Christ's garment.

Since then I have understood the deeper meaning of this. Several years later I awoke one Sunday morning and could not hear at all. That day I was to be an usher in church, and I felt it was necessary for me to hear, since as an usher I had to be prepared in case any visitors should speak to me.

Immediately I began to pray as we are taught in Christian Science, and in a short time I suddenly heard the birds singing outside my window. I then went off to church and performed my duties there, the healing being complete.
