Attaining Peace

For many years certain nations of the world have been striving to attain peace—peace of mind and freedom from the threat of war and atomic devastation. Yet each step in this direction seems thwarted by some new threat in an opposite direction. Is not this evidence that mankind is attempting to establish a state of peace upon the wrong basis?

The book of Isaiah contains the key to a peaceful world (9: 6, 7): "Unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God. The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end."

In fulfillment of Isaiah's prophecy Christ Jesus, the Way-shower, in his farewell to his disciples prior to his betrayal said, "Peace I leave with you my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you" (John 14:27). this peace which Jesus possessed while confronted with the carnal mind's manifestation of hatred, revenge, malice, and destruction enabled him to remain calm and secure.
