CONVICTION
The
Lord, our God omnipotent, reigns now;
This we must know.
Merely to say the words will not establish
Proof, nor yet to sing the joyous phrases,
Although the praise may be sincere and fervent:
But we must comprehend in constant prayer
The ever-present Principle of goodness.
We must know now, for men of every station.
In jungle swamp, on hill, or restless ocean.
Or where the satellites are space-exploring,
That God is there, all-powerful, all-loving,
All-knowing, and all-wise. This we must know,
Beyond the shadow of a doubt;
Then will His government appear in law and order:
Then will the view unfold of men as brothers,
Believing, trusting, laboring in concord.
The Lord, our God omnipotent, reigns now;
This we must know.
