About seven years ago, my wife left me, and later we were divorced. Up to that time, I had never really understood God. I was lonely, mixed up, and depressed. A friend of mine, a fellow employee, who was a Christian Scientist, offered me a copy of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. He also invited me to attend church services with him and his wife. I accepted this invitation gratefully, as I was searching for something to uplift me.

Shortly thereafter I was healed of drinking and swearing solely through reading the Lesson-sermon, outlined in the Christian Science Quarterly, and through the help of new friends. I suddenly realized that the desire for drink had left me. The alertness and purity of thought I gained from Truth healed me completely of swearing. Soon after this I became a member of The Mother Church.

I had many instantaneous healings, one of which was that of a severe pain in my right side one night I was awakened with this difficulty and was very fearful. I called on a friend who was a Christian Scientist, and he assured me of the perfect harmony of God's creation, the one true creation. He recommended that I study thoroughly a certain passage from Science and Health. I read the passage about ten times, and the pain left me completely and has never returned.
