God's Patterns of Perfection

On a cold, moonlit night in early spring, two Christian Scientists watched a great flock of wild swans settle gracefully down on a lake. These beautiful wild creatures presented an awe-inspiring picture of order, harmony, strength. Their joyous and natural adherence to an orderly pattern in their flight to a colder clime for the summer hinted God's eternally perfect control of the spiritual universe and His tender, preserving care for all His ideas.

The prophet Isaiah also caught a glimpse of God's mighty power and presence in the flight of birds. He wrote (31:5), "As birds flying, so will the Lord of hosts defend Jerusalem; defending also he will deliver it; and passing over tie will preserve it."

The orderly flight of the swans caused one of the Christian Scientists to ponder more deeply the thought of God's patterns of divine perfection which constitute the basic reality of man's real being as the image and likeness of God. And because God is divine Principle, His patterns of perfection are supported by divine law. The order, harmony, and beauty of His eternally unfolding goodness can be proven here and now as more spiritual understanding is gained of the infinite wisdom and power of Mind, God.
