My wife and I had been Christian Scientists...
My wife and I had been Christian Scientists for many years and had experienced many healings of minor injuries and physical complaints through Christian Science. However, we had never been faced with a situation that really tested our faith or that required the fullest possible application of the truths in which we believed. Such a test came to us early in 1962.
One morning, as I was about to leave the house, I stopped for a few moments to watch the birds in the feeder just outside one of the windows. Suddenly I became very dizzy. The feeling persisted, in spite of my immediate and vigorous denial of its reality, and my wife assisted me to bed.
We worked prayerfully all that day, and by night the persistent dizziness had left, and I had a good night's sleep. When I awoke next morning, however, and attempted to get out of bed, I discovered that I could not move my left arm or leg and that I was paralyzed on that side.
