"Leave thy dreams for joyful waking"

In Science and Health, Mrs. Eddy says (p. 95), "Lulled by stupefying illusions, the world is asleep in the cradle of infancy, dreaming away the hours." Thus does she alert mankind to their greatest need: waking to divine reality. She continues, "Material sense does not unfold the facts of existence; but spiritual sense lifts human consciousness into eternal Truth."

It may be asked by a beginner: "How can I understand the Christian Science teaching that real Life is Spirit, since I seem so perpetually conscious of matter? How can I nullify the general belief in a physical universe, since I feel so much a part of it?" The answer Christian Science gives may be illustrated as follows.

Suppose you dreamed last night. In your dream you were fearful of an impending terror or joyful in a happy circumstance. Then you awakened. Instantly you knew that your dream experience was an illusion. Instantly you nullified its claim to reality. No effort was required to do this. No difficulty was encountered. You just knew, "I dreamed it; it never happened."
