Consistent Progress

A Christian Science branch church in England writes:

"Five years ago when our Reading Room was located in the church edifice, we were aware that the situation was governed largely by the argument of limited income. We began to work with Mrs. Eddy's statement: 'Truth and Love enlighten the understanding, in whose "light shall we see light;" and this illumination is reflected spiritually by all who walk in the light and turn away from a false material sense' (Science and Health, p. 510). A constant effort was made to raise our sights higher than the material aspect. This bore fruit.

"We were offered small ground-floor premises with window space in the heart of the city. The cost of the project in relation to available funds necessitated overcoming much fear, but finally it was agreed to go forward. It is significant that, although the question of a long lease appeared to present the greatest obstacle, the acceptance of it ultimately proved a blessing. The Reading Room was completed, and the inspired work of successive librarians and loyal helpers has resulted in continuous unfoldment of good. Sales and attendance figures showed marked improvement in the new location. Most remarkable, however, has been the change in our finances. Our total assets have more than doubled, and there has been no difficulty in meeting the increased commitments.
