Let freedom ring! Of such is the American dream, but what does it really mean? Freedom is God's gift. We are created not as puppets, to be manipulated, but as free and responsible persons. This is the gift. But there can be no gift unless there is a receiver. Freedom is not life behind high walls of protection where each may do as he pleases. Freedom's foundation is right relationships in at least three areas, and these must be achieved daily.
The first is the proper ordering of values within one's own life. In a single day a thousand voices bid for one's attention. Temptations to second best confront one daily. He who cannot set down in their proper order the voices that would claim him is not free. "Every one who commits sin is a slave to sin" (John 8:34) [Rev. Stand. Ver.], and neither forms of government nor well-equipped armies can set him free.
