The Value of the Lesson-Sermons

Mrs. Eddy writes in Science and Health (p. 147): "Although this volume contains the complete Science of Mind-healing, never believe that you can absorb the whole meaning of the Science by a simple perusal of this book. The book needs to be studied, and the demonstration of the rules of scientific healing will plant you firmly on the spiritual groundwork of Christian Science. This proof lifts you high above the perishing fossils of theories already antiquated, and enables you to grasp the spiritual facts of being hitherto unattained and seemingly dim."'

The Lesson-Sermons, which are provided in the Christian Science Quarterly and prayerfully compiled from the Bible and Science and Health by a committee, greatly aid the sincere student to gain a higher and therefore a demonstrable understanding of this Science.

These lessons provide an adequate systematic means for spiritualizing human consciousness and dissipating the dream of materialism. Herein is the essence of true prosperity. The twenty-six Lesson-Sermon subjects, supplied by Mrs. Eddy, are used twice each year. At one time when a committee compiled a list of additional subjects for Mrs. Eddy's consideration she said to one member of the Bible Lesson Committee, "Tell the committee the original subjects were given of God—they are sufficient, and they will remain forever" (Twelve Years with Mary Baker Eddy by Irving C. Tomlinson, p. 145).
