Their mental approach to life is hedged in and hindered by their tradition, and they interpret every experience, not by what is right, but by what they want. They cannot see beyond the gratification of their own desire.

Linked with smallness of mind is narrowness of spirit, for the one is productive of the other. Such a spirit affirms its own lightness, often in an aggressive and antagonistic way. . . .
