Protecting Our Standards
[Of Special Interest to Young Men and Women]
We read in the Scriptures that when the people took up stones to cast at him, "Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by" (John 8:59).
The average individual often finds himself beset by arguments which would try to confuse him, tempt him to lower his standards, and rob him of his serenity. What can he do about it? Through the teachings of Christian Science he can learn how to recognize his spiritual identity as the perfect reflection of his Father-Mother God and to claim the benefits of protection and guidance which his sonship with God includes.
Frequently one thinks only of protection from accidents, sickness, lack, and physical disaster. But today, more than ever before, young people need to be alert to protect themselves from the subtle suggestions constantly being presented to the public that tobacco, alcoholic beverages, and drugs contribute either to pleasure, popularity, or relief from tension. The theater and movies sometimes tend to indicate that laxity of moral standards is commonplace and normal.
