Supporting Authority After an Election
When one believes his support of a candidate is divinely directed, the candidate's defeat at the polls may be hard to understand. Does it mean that God had ceased to govern His universe or that He has failed to answer prayer? No, but it presents an opportunity to improve one's concept of divine government and human government.
What is divinely right is never defeated. God is divine Principle, and man, His spiritual idea, is governed by Principle's invariable law.
An election is a human event. Its outcome in no way affects spiritual reality. But to the extent that each individual takes his part and makes his choice freely, an election patterns reality. It illustrates the individual man's expression of Principle, in which man reflects the divine self-government.
