Spiritual Education

After Mary Baker Eddy discovered Christian Science, she prayerfully developed a system of education whereby her discovery could best be learned and demonstrated. Because Christian Science is exact, with Principle and rules to understand and apply, it must be correctly expounded. Mistakes in any field of science are undemonstrable, and they are so in the application of the Christ Science.

Class instruction is one means of education provided by Mrs. Eddy in her Manual of The Mother Church, the body of By-Laws which govern the Church membership. In writing the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." our Leader included the chapter "Recapitulation,"' which is the basis for class instruction and which is a revision of her original class book copyrighted in 1870. She says of this chapter (p. 465), "Absolute Christian Science pervades its statements, to elucidate scientific metaphysics."

One purpose of any branch of education is to organize knowledge. A haphazard grasp of a subject is never satisfactory. If one is learning a profession, he needs to know just where he stands in applying his knowledge of it. He should be not only well versed in the fundamentals of his profession but resourceful in developing its use in practical ways.
