Church Dedications
Greenville Advocate
Greenville, Ohio (First Church).
Dedication services for Greenville's First Church of Christ, Scientist, at 600 Walnut Street, will he held October 27, at 10.45 a.m. and 3 p.m.
Construction of the new church was started in October, 1961, and completed in March, 1962. The building is now debt-free, officials reported.
Members of Christian Science Society, Greenville, formed here in 1909, first met in the Universalist church. Later, quarters were obtained in the Citizens State Bank.
By 1920, the local church was recognized as a branch of The Mother Church in Boston, Massachusetts.
A residence at 124 Washington Avenue was purchased in 1928 to provide room for services, Sunday School, and a Reading Room. This building was sold in 1944 and rooms were rented in the Weaver Building where services were held until 1952.
At this time a building on the site of the present location was bought, remodeled, and used until construction of the new church was started in 1961.—Greenville Advocate (October 22, 1963).
