harmony into our present experience"

"Opportunity has hair on her forehead, but is bald behind. If you meet her seize her, for once let slip, Jove himself cannot catch her again." During the writer's school days, students were repeatedly reminded of this Latin adage to spur them to greater effort. But instead of accomplishing its purpose, the suggestion brought discouragement and quenched the incentive for future endeavor.
