RADIO PROGRAM No. 136 - Your Present Salvation

INTERVIEWER: Few people would deny the need for salvation. The challenge is, Can we relate salvation to the practical needs of today? In his book "The Christianity of Main Street," Theodore Wedel, Canon of Washington Cathedral, commented on this. He said: "Men and woman live their lives of anxiety and tragedy, of hope and failure in the present. When in need of salvation, they cry for 'a very present help in trouble.'" (© 1950, by Theodore O. Wedel, The Macmillan Company, New York, N. Y.) What are your comments on this? Is there a practical way to meet this need for help, for salvation?

SPEAKER: Yes, there certainly is. The basic teaching of Christian Science is that the power of God, the mightiest power in the world, is present, working with us, and is bringing salvation right now. That was the keystone of the teachings of Christ Jesus.

Today, as in the Master's time, salvation is not a matter of waiting for our problems to be solved in the future. It is a step-by-step process that can begin right here and now.
