One day about two years ago I...

One day about two years ago I seriously injured the little toe of one foot. I felt extreme pain, but I began to affirm the truths of Christian Science.

I affirmed that "under divine Providence there can be no accidents, since there is no room for imperfection in perfection" (Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, p. 424). I also recalled Mrs. Eddy's words (ibid., p. 253), "Matter can make no opposition to right endeavors against sin or sickness, for matter is inert, mindless." I knew that man, God's image and likeness, is incapable of experiencing pain or inharmony. He is held forever intact and perfect.

As a result of this earnest prayerful work the pain ceased. I was able to walk. I put on a pair of loose shoes and went on with my daily routine. The foot did not feel normal for some days, and a heavy bruise appeared. However, these statements of truth were persistently adhered to.
