True Sensibility

Sensibility, when spiritually understood, enriches one's life and aids one in gaining dominion over discord and disease. But when this important faculty is not so understood, an individual may become its slave in the degree that he depends upon it for good. For example, one who is highly sensitive to beauty or to the needs of the moment in his chosen field of activity may find himself oversensitive to the thoughts and opinions of his friends and loved ones.

True sensibility is of God. It is more than the ability to sense the elements of a situation; it is the reflected power of Soul to express spiritually the qualities truly present in every situation. We are taught in Christian Science that Soul is God, the divine Mind, the exact opposite of physical sensation. Through the study and application of Science we learn to differentiate true sensibility from its counterfeit by determining what thoughts and what sensations come from Spirit and what thoughts and sensations come from the material senses. As we learn the difference and as we willingly discount and discard the troublemaking sensitiveness, we develop true sensibility.
