WORDS OF CURRENT INTEREST
[The words in this issue are related to the Lesson-Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly designated to be read in Christian Science churches on January 12, 1964.]
I am the bread of life (John 6:35)
In Greek the word eimi means "I-am" with no special emphasis on the "I." which is included in the verb. When, however, we read ego eimi (as here), the separate "I" (ego) is very definitely emphatic, although it is hard to suggest this in translating into English. The Twentieth Century New Testament renders, '"I am the Life-giving Bread."
All, That the Father giveth me shall come...him that cometh (John 6:37)
