Our revered Leader, referring...

Our revered Leader, referring to Jesus, writes in Science and Health (p. 52): "The 'man of sorrows' best understood the nothingness of material life and intelligence and the mighty actuality of all-inclusive God, good. These were the two cardinal points of Mind-healing, or Christian Science, which armed him with Love." This same understanding has enabled many students of Christian Science to prove, through the study of the Holy Bible and the explanation of its spiritual significance given in the writings of Mrs. Eddy, the reality of man's being.

Sometime ago I was struck on the head by a garage door that came loose after it was raised. The locking mechanism struck me on top of the head, cutting my scalp severely. I immediately denied that man can actually be hurt and crawled from under the door. The truck I drive is garaged in a residential neighborhood, and after I had made my way into the yard, a kind neighbor ushered me into her home. She washed my wound and did what she could to make me comfortable. She thought that an ambulance should be called to take me to a hospital to have the wound stitched, but I continued to know that God is man's strength.

Silently and understandingly I repeated "the scientific statement of being," which contains the truth that "Spirit is God, and man is His image and likeness" (Science and Health, p. 468). I recalled too Mrs. Eddy's statement that "man is not matter; he is not made up of brain, blood, bones, and other material elements" (ibid., p. 475).
