Signs of the Times
The Rev. Prof. Paul J. Tillich of The University of Chicago in a sermon delivered in Memorial Church, Harvard University Cambridge, Massachusetts
(Reprinted by permission)
The last prayer in the Our Father is known to all of us in the form: "Deliver us from evil." This form is not wrong, but it does not reach the depth of the original words which say: "Save us from the evil one." . . . The two translations . . . use two different images of what salvation is: "saving" and "delivering."
