Christian Science is the only...
Christian Science is the only religion I have ever known. In fact, four generations in our family have been blessed by being students of this wonderful truth. Of all the healings we have had in our family of four, I shall relate two.
When I was in a university as a student, I became ill with what I thought was tonsillitis. Wanting to bring about the healing through my own prayers, I struggled with this for about two weeks. On a certain Wednesday I could not get out of bed. My parents were informed of this and came and took me home. My mother, a consecrated practitioner, worked for me. On Thursday morning I could not utter a word, and that night I felt, to mortal sense, that I was passing on. On Friday I was better and went back to school the following Monday completely healed.
I did not know until a year later that the symptoms were apparently those of pneumonia, but my mother had refused to see anything but perfect man. Mrs. Eddy says in Science and Health (pp. 476, 477): "Jesus beheld in Science the perfect man, who appeared to him where sinning mortal man appears to mortals. In this perfect man the Saviour saw God's own likeness, and this correct view of man healed the sick."
The other proof of God's care came about thirty years ago when our son was a baby. A condition which became very painful developed in one of my breasts. I had no diagnosis by a doctor, but I thought it was a carbuncle. I applied the truths of Science as best I could, but one day the pain seemed unbearable. So I telephoned my mother and asked her to come over to care for the baby, because I felt I could not.
However, before she arrived, I had to make him comfortable, and while bending over the crib, I felt something loosen in my breast. I was determined to rely strictly on God for my healing, and my mother and I both worked to know that "a spiritual idea has not a single element of error, and this truth removes properly whatever is offensive" (ibid., p. 463). That evening the breast drained. In about three days there was no evidence of the condition to be seen.
I am grateful that Christian Science acts as a preventive as well as a curative. I am grateful too for the privilege of class instruction and for our Master, Christ Jesus, and our Leader. It is my desire to prove to be a faithful follower of their teachings.— (Mrs.) Esther Weikert Wilson, Seal Beach, California.
