My parents enrolled me in a Christian Science Sunday School at an early age, and I learned to use this religion in all my daily activities. As a Sunday School pupil I had many proofs of its healing and protecting power either through my own prayers or with the help of my parents or a Christian Science practitioner.
These experiences include the overnight healing of a severely sprained foot and the disappearance within three days of a number of warts on the soles of my feet. The healings were brought about by my understanding of the power of God and the knowledge that matter is powerless. Both these experiences have been a source of encouragement to me since my school days.
At college my friends and acquaintances always showed respect for and sometimes admiration of my refusal to smoke and my choice of soft drinks on social occasions. Sometimes I have, by example, encouraged others to do likewise, and I am grateful that my knowledge of Christian Science gave me the courage to take my stand in this direction.
