A few years ago on a Wednesday...

A few years ago on a Wednesday afternoon I injured my ankle. I heard a loud snapping sound in it; so I sat down quickly and started praying earnestly and confidently in the way in which we are taught in Christian Science.

I expressed gratitude to God that I had the faith to rely on Him; that this was an opportunity to prove my understanding; that there is no power other than God; that nothing in His universe can be other than perfect because, as the Bible says (Gen. 1:31), "God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good." I knew too that "God created man in his own image" (verse 27). I continued for some time stating to myself with positive conviction that as the image and likeness of God I was whole and perfect.

After the first instant of intense pain, I had no further discomfort. I am not certain how long I continued to sit, but it was probably ten or fifteen minutes. I then stood up, walked through two rooms and down some steps and got into my car. I stopped to do an errand and went home, climbing a flight of stairs. I prepared dinner, saying nothing about the injury to my husband, and still refusing to look at my ankle. Later I went to the testimony meeting at church.
