The Wednesday Testimony Meetings

Probably no institution was ever more thoughtfully and prayerfully designed than the Church of Christ, Scientist, which Mary Baker Eddy founded. Those who realize this fact willingly follow Mrs. Eddy's Leadership by supporting her outline for freeing the race from bondage to mortality through the application of Christian Science. One vastly important activity of the Church she founded is that of the Wednesday testimony meetings. Here the power of Christ to heal and save is publicly proclaimed. The student of Christian Science and the stranger hear of present-day miracles, which are actually demonstrations of timeless, divine law.

Article VIII, Section 24, of the Manual of The Mother Church by Mrs. Eddy includes these statements: "Testimony in regard to the healing of the sick is highly important. More than a mere rehearsal of blessings, it scales the pinnacle of praise and illustrates the demonstration of Christ, 'who healeth all thy diseases' (Psalm 103:3)."

Attendants at Wednesday testimony meetings who think of the healings related in terms of the ever-present power of Christ, the spiritual idea of sonship, are strengthened in faith and hope and understanding. Often they are healed of sickness, sin, frustration, and despair. They begin to identify themselves as divine Mind's ideas, infinitely removed from the flesh and its weaknesses. In this way the leaven of Christ, Truth, expands the loaf of human thought; and freedom from the destructive, mortal sense of life advances.
