Bearing Witness to Truth
Treatment in Christian Science is prayer based upon the spiritual facts of being, one of which is that man is the perfect manifestation of perfect God, who is Spirit. Whatever needs to be healed in human experience is healed through our bringing the liberating power of Truth to bear upon human belief by the demonstration of what is true of God and of man, made in His likeness.
Suffering seems to be very real to the one who is experiencing it. But it is real only to a false sense, a sense that has not yet yielded to the fact that in Spirit man has perfect, harmonious being. To such a sense, error will seem to be true until Truth exposes its falsity. Error cannot stand before that which exposes its nothingness.
Whether he admits it or not, one who believes that man is a sinning, imperfect mortal involves himself in a form of slavery. He may claim that he is free to believe what he wants to, but this is not really freedom. Freedom is to be found only in Truth. Christ Jesus pointed to this fact when he declared, "If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free" (John 8:31, 32). This truth is the spiritual fact of man's inseparability from God.
