Scientific Prayer

He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father" (John 14:12). So spoke Christ Jesus. The early followers of the Master did healing works for about three hundred years. Now that Christian Science has proved that such works can be repeated today, Christians are seriously undertaking to make healing through prayer an essential part of their ministry.

Prayers are being offered in many Christian churches and by many church groups on behalf of those who are ill. That is a step forward. As human thought recognizes the Master's healing works as demonstration of divine power rather than as miraculous interventions in the realm of nature, prayer will become more scientific and so more effective.

A necessary step in a more fruitful healing effort through prayer is the realization that instead of being a phenomenon of nature, disease is a product of what the Apostle Paul called "the carnal mind," which "is enmity against God" (Rom. 8:7). A recognition of this enables one who would heal the sick through scientific prayer to utilize the power of the divine Mind to annul the action of the spurious carnal mind. And he finds that such prayer has the power of omniscience back of it.
