Pupils Learn About the Manual

[From a teacher in a branch church Sunday School]

"The Manual of The Mother Church by Mary Baker Eddy has proved of much value in my mixed class of eight- to twelve-year-olds. Before the hour began, this indispensable book was shown to the children with the explanation of the ways in which it guards and guides our movement as a whole and pertains to the Sunday School. The pupils now know that the Manual contains the Rules for conducting the Sunday School and for keeping the Christian Science movement running harmoniously and universally. They know that to obey its Rules and By-Laws ensures progress and proves our love for God, our Leader, the Church she founded, and for all mankind."

This teacher was alert to point out to the pupils that acquaintance with the Manual is one of the requirements for membership in The Mother Church. She told them that the Manual is a rule book containing directions for them to follow. When obeyed, it protects their forward steps, helping them to develop a spiritual understanding of God and of their own true nature as His children.
