My introduction to Science over thirty-five years ago was through my brother, who came from the United States to visit his family in Germany. Some time earlier he had had an injury to a leg through an accident, and the leg was to be amputated. But a friend sent a Christian Science practitioner to see him in the hospital the night before the amputation.

The next morning my brother put on his clothes and shoes and walked out of the hospital completely healed.

He related this to us in Germany and also told us of the great opportunities available in the United States. My husband was persuaded to return with him for a visit and decided that he would like to settle in the United States. After he had been there about two years, he wrote asking me and our ten-year-old daughter to join him. This was not so simple as it sounded. There were restrictions on immigration into the United States. When I applied for our visa, I was told there were hundreds of people who had applied ahead of me. It might be months or years before our turn came.
