The Board of Trustees of The Christian Science Publishing Society, with the concurrence of The Christian Science Board of Directors, has elected Arthur P. Wuth, C. S. B., of Denver, Colorado, a member of the Board of Trustees, effective June 4, 1962, to succeed Leonard T. Carney, C. S. B.

Mr. Carney recently retired from the Board of Trustees, where he had served capably and well for the past fifteen years. He takes with him the loving good wishes of those with whom he has been associated, as well as their sincere appreciation.

Mr. Wuth attended the Christian Science Sunday School from early childhood. He united with The Mother Church in 1929 and received Primary class instruction in 1934. Since 1942 Mr. Wuth has devoted himself to the public practice of Christian Science. In 1946 he was appointed Christian Science Committee on Publication for Colorado and served in that capacity until June, 1956.

Mr. Wuth was a member of the Normal class in the Board of Education in 1952, and since then he has been an authorized teacher of Christian Science. He became a member of The Christian Science Board of Lectureship in 1956 and continued in that capacity until elected First Reader of The Mother Church in 1959, which term he has just completed.

Mr. Wuth will continue to hold his classes and conduct the meetings of his pupils' association in Denver.

DeWitt John, C. S., of Lincoln, Massachusetts, has been appointed by The Christian Science Board of Directors to the office of Committee on Publication for Massachusetts and Manager of Committees on Publication, succeeding the late Will B. Davis, C. S. B.

Mr. Davis was widely known and loved for his many years of effective service in the Christian Science movement in various capacities, including those of practitioner, teacher, and lecturer. His eight and a half years as Manager of Committees on Publication were marked by many progressive developments in the fields of television, radio, film, legislative, and corrective work.

Mr. John is a native of Arizona. He holds degrees from Principia College, the University of Chicago, and Columbia University. He joined The Christian Science Monitor as a reporter in 1939. For four years during World War II he was an officer in the United States Navy, receiving the Bronze Star for service in the Pacific.

A lifelong Christian Scientist, he joined The Mother Church in 1927 and received Primary class instruction in 1937. He left an editorial post on the Monitor in 1949 to join the Committee on Publication staff as a writer. He has been active in branch church work and has been listed in The Christian Science Journal as a practitioner since 1958. He has been Assistant Manager of Committees on Publication for the past eight years.

Hear the Tuesday Evening Meeting Entitled "The Spiritual Mission of Church"

Thousands of members from many parts of the world gathered in The Mother Church on June 5, 1962, to hear the Tuesday Evening Meeting entitled "The Spiritual Mission of Church." These members came to the Annual Meeting to hear the report of progress of our Church and to dedicate themselves anew to the continuing advancement of our movement.

By means of tape recording, many more thousands may partake of the healing and vital message of this meeting. How important it is that every member avail himself of the opportunity to strengthen his present understanding of this most significant topic!

Five consecrated workers in our movement contributed to the development of this theme.

The opening address, "The Spiritual Foundation of Church," was given by Mrs. Elizabeth Class Barlow, C. S., of New York City.

The next subject, "Rousing the Dormant Understanding," was delivered by Jules Cern, C. S., of Scarsdale, New York.

Mrs. Mary Wellington Gale, C. S. B., of San Francisco, California, was the next speaker. Her address was entitled "Overcoming Resistance to Spiritualization."

Carl J. Welz, C. S. B., of Boston, Massachusetts, presented the subject, "Spiritualization of Thought Brings Healing."

The closing address, "Our Leader as Founder," was given by Mrs. Mary Hughes Sweeney, C. S. B., of Chicago, Illinois.

A tape recording of the entire meeting is now ready for distribution without charge to all branches of The Mother Church. For those churches and societies using languages other than English in their services there are similar recordings in French and German, as well as manuscript translations in Danish, Dutch, trench, German, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish, and Swedish. Where there is no branch within a reasonable distance, a group of members of The Mother Church may arrange to present this meeting by tape recording or by manuscript translation.

Application cards have been mailed to all branches of The Mother Church. Additional information and applications may be obtained by writing to the Department of Branches and Practitioners, 107 Falmouth Street, Boston 15, Massachusetts, U. S. A.

Fund for Armed Services Activities

The thousands of Christian Scientists in the armed services, who are serving their respective countries throughout the world, are being helped by The Mother Church through the Fund for Armed Services Activities.

Christian Science Ministers are paid from this Fund. These workers conduct Christian Science services, give treatments, and visit and work with those in Veterans Hospitals who seek and rely wholly on Christian Science for healing. They contact the soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines who indicate Christian Science as their religious preference, giving them Service Edition sets of the Bible and "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy and, in the case of young recruits, helping them to adjust to their military experience. Quantities of authorized Christian Science literature are distributed among the Armed Forces personnel.

The scope of the work is great, for The Mother Church has Christian Science Ministers and field workers placed in the United States, Canada, Great Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Australia, Japan, Korea, and other countries. During the past year, approximately $300,000 was expended to carry on this work.

Contributions are welcome and should be sent to the Treasurer, Roy Garrett Watson, 107 Falmouth Street, Boston 15, Massachusetts.

How You Can Help

When you send a remittance to the Publishing Society, do you always send with your check or money order something to tell us what it is for? The "something" may be a periodical renewal notice, or the part of our bill on which your name and address are typed, or a brief note to tell us how you wish to have the payment used. We shall be grateful for your help in this way.
