Activities for the Armed Services

Because the United States, Great Britain, Canada, and other countries are increasing the size of their Armed Forces and because as a consequence more Christian Scientists are going into the forces and receiving recruit training, we are devoting this column as well as last month's column to a report of what Christian Science Activities for the Armed Services is doing for recruits.

Christian Science Chaplains, Ministers, and Representatives hold services at practically all installations in the United States where there is recruit training. As a general rule, those taking this training are permitted to attend the services that are officially approved and that are scheduled and advertised by the Chaplains.

At the midweek meetings many young men and women give their first testimonies in gratitude for the blessings received from Christian Science. Among the healings related are those of loneliness, physical difficulties, adjustment to military life, personality conflicts, and other problems. Many of them express their thanks for having Chaplains, Ministers, and Representatives at the installations to whom they can go for help with their problems. As a result of their experiences in the Armed Forces, many young men and women who have been reared in Christian Science and have attended Sunday Schools discover Christian Science for themselves for the first time and are inspired with a desire to become church members and to practice the truth in their daily lives.
