I had been searching for many years for a practical and satisfying religion, and finally my extremity proved to be God's opportunity. For years there had been no need for my husband and me to concern ourselves with anything but the enjoyment of living well, both physically and financially. Suddenly, however, we found ourselves faced not only with the loss of health but of our home and everything we possessed.

It was at that time that the question came to me quite suddenly, "Why don't you read the little book that you have had so long, called Science and Health?" I found the book, written by Mrs. Eddy, but to read it was not so easily done. I was suffering from a complete physical breakdown; and since there was a loss of eye co-ordination, I found I could not see what was printed on the pages. Then I remembered that there are Christian Science practitioners, who can be called on for help. I felt somewhat reluctant to call one because of my lack of knowledge of Science at that time, but the pain and fear were so great that I felt there was nothing else left for me to do. The call was made, and the practitioner gave me basic spiritual truths to work with and told me that prayerful work would be begun for me.

The healing was slow, but that was because much fear and wrong thinking had to be overcome. The road was long and hard, and at times I was very much discouraged; but the Bible verse that constantly sustained me is (Ps. 118:17), "I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord." As thought was purified and God glorified and as I learned to know and love man as God knows and loves him, the unfoldment of good came one day, and I found that I was completely well. Nothing had been lost, but I had gained much by learning that man is really immortal and spiritually perfect.
