I should like to express my gratitude...

I should like to express my gratitude for Christian Science and to tell of a healing that occurred some twenty years ago. This healing made a deep and lasting impression on me, not so much because of the healing of the pain but because of the glorious glimpse of heaven that was revealed to me.

I was living at a boardinghouse and had been bothered by pain in my chest for some time. Then one evening I lay down on the bed, and the pain became so severe that I could not move my arms or legs. I could have called out for help because there were other people in the house. But I had had some previous healings in Science, and so I decided to rely on God as we are taught to rely on Him in Science. I prayed for probably several hours—a deep, conscientious prayer of repentance and of striving to realize man's spiritual likeness to God. Suddenly the pain left me, and I experienced a wonderful sense of peace and freedom as I went to sleep.

The next morning I awoke with a grand feeling of well-being. I left the house, and as I walked out onto the sidewalk it was as if there were an unearthly brightness all around me. I stood still with such a sense of joy and of physical and mental well-being that I felt as if I were having a glimpse of heaven or eternity. I walked down the street with scarcely any effort. When I returned and came to the flight of steps leading up to the house, I ran up and down them, I do not know how many times, just through the sheer joy of living, without getting the least bit tired or breathless. I had a feeling of unlimited energy. The trouble has never recurred.
