I have been infinitely blessed by my study and application of Christian Science, and so I am submitting this testimony with a sincere hope that it will help others.
In 1938 I came to a desert place in my human experience. I was lonely, unemployed, and burdened with debts that seemed impossible for me to pay. I was so discouraged at times that I was tempted to end my life. Then in my extremity I turned wholeheartedly to God and sought His guidance. As a result I was led to ask a Christian Scientist for help. She discerned that I was worried about my financial obligations. Instead of sympathizing with me, she firmly declared, "Your greatest obligation is to God."
This statement aroused me. Although I was almost penniless, I walked home with new hope and a freer step, and a desire was born in me to become a God-inspired, practicing Christian Scientist. I began to study the Bible Lesson from the Christian Science Quarterly thoroughly at the beginning of each day. to attend a branch church regularly, to serve it, and to support it financially as best I could.
