Winning Happiness

[Of Special Interest to Children]

The big day had arrived. The time for the school pet show had finally come. Lucinda had been looking forward so eagerly to the event that now she asked to skip her morning "quiet time" and be on her way. But her mother knew that this day, as all days, should begin with spiritual truths; so she sat down, motioning for Lucinda to join her.

During that week Lucinda had been making blue ribbons for the winners, and she longed for one of these ribbons. Mother pointed out that wanting a prize so much was a "getting" thought and recommended that she take her pet with the desire to share. Christ Jesus once told his disciples (Luke 6:38), "Give and it shall be given unto you." So by giving and sharing, Luncida would be sure of winning—winning happiness, not only for herself, but for all the children.

Lucinda agreed that this was what she wanted most. But she confided that something troubled her. Each child was expected to tell about his pet something of interest to the other children. Lucinda had prepared several remarks, but didn't know which one to use; and, besides, she had never spoken before so many people.
