God Is the Only Employer

At first glance the above statement may seem to be farfetched, but it is true. When unemployment assumes the proportion of an epidemic, there is need to establish the fact that employment, like health, is a spiritual emanation of God. Because this is a fact, there is in reality always enough employment and health for everyone. Our opportunity is to understand and acknowledge this fact. Unemployment and disease will seem to be real only as long as one entertains a material sense of employment and health.

When Christian Scientists are faced with what appears to be an epidemic of disease, they prayerfully identify themselves with Spirit, Soul, the true source of health; and as a result they experience protection or healing, as the case may be. It is only when they let down their guard, so to speak, when they forget God's ever-presence and man's oneness with Him as His expression, that they seem to come under the mesmeric illusion of disease and fulfill its conditions. And what is true of disease is equally true of unemployment.

What is one to do when he is confronted with unemployment or the fear of it? If he is a Christian Scientist, he will realize that as long as he sees himself as an individual manifestation of divine Mind he cannot be reduced to the level of a statistic. Employment is not a commodity; it is an idea sustained by its divine Principle.
