Gratitude should never be
Mere model of propriety:
Wordless, shy, with thought ingrown,
Living to itself alone.
Active gratitude must share
All its wonder everywhere,
Watching with a radiant face
Burdens lift before its grace.
Gratitude as means or end
Pays a royal dividend.
