How Much Does Thought Influence the Body?

If the drug researcher could find a way to prevent people from being human, his work would be much less difficult. This is the gist of a newspaper article by the science editor of a well-known news service which is reprinted in the "Signs of the Times" column in this issue of the Christian Science Sentinel.

The writer refers to the tendency of some people to react to a placebo in the way they should react to a drug, and he quotes from an authoritative medical review: "The body's capacity to respond to what the mind accepts is amazing and almost unlimited."

For nearly a century Christian Scientists have been working in the field of spiritual healing—and with a great deal of success. They have found that when the mentality of a patient responds to the truths unfolded by immortal Mind, the body reacts in a positive and most constructive way. This is because these spiritual truths bring to human consciousness divine energies that are creative, redemptive, restorative. A consciousness in which Truth unfolds man's spiritual nature is made superior to disease as well as sin.
