Reaching the Mountain Peak

The universe of God's creating is constituted of spiritual realities; these we can understand as we are willing to give up our material beliefs and yield to the Christ, the spiritual idea of being. Discerning spiritual realities is much like reaching a mountain peak. Because we can see the peak, we know it is there. If we would reach it, we must keep it as our goal and keep moving toward it.

We cannot make the transition from a material to a spiritual sense of things at once, even if we wanted to, although it would save us many intermediate steps. How, then, is this transition to be made? Surely not through death, for death does not bring one to a state of perfection.

The demand of Christ Jesus (Matt. 5:48), "Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect," can be, and so must be, fulfilled. But this does not mean transforming an imperfect mortal into a perfect mortal. We achieve spiritual perfection only as we put off the imperfect mortal sense, give it up in favor of the perfect, spiritual sense of ourselves as God-created identities.
