One summer, after some hours...

One summer, after some hours of swimming, diving, and playing water ball, I suffered from a painful spinal condition. The next day I made an attempt to perform my work, but I was forced to retire to my bedroom. Because of the pain, it was impossible for me to find relief in any position; but I was able to get to the telephone when I decided to ask a Christian Science practitioner to help me.

I was reminded by the practitioner that God is the only cause and that man is His effect. I was relieved by the assurance that I need not hold myself responsible for breaking a so-called material law regarding overexercise. After talking to the practitioner I returned to my bed and slept soundly. Upon awakening I was greatly improved, and the complete healing followed shortly.

Three years ago, while driving in light rain in the winter, I was not aware that the rain was crystallizing in patches of ice on the highway. I was traveling at the maximum legal speed when a car coming from the opposite direction skidded and came to a stop directly in the path of my car. Although I immediately applied the brakes, my car crashed at full speed into the stalled car.
