One of the first passages from...
One of the first passages from Mrs. Eddy's writings that I learned after beginning the study of Christian Science was "the scientific statement of being" found on page 468 of Science and Health. I have had many opportunities since then to make use of the powerful truths this statement contains.
On one occasion my daughter awakened one morning with pinkeye. Prior to the time I became interested in Science, my other three children had had this difficulty and had been compelled to stay home from school for days. Remembering this, I immediately began to express gratitude for Christian Science and for the knowledge that man is really God's perfect, spiritual child. "The scientific statement of being" tells us that "Spirit is God, and man is His image and likeness."
While I prepared the breakfast and put up several lunches I asked my daughter to stay in her room. I did not wish the others to see the condition. While I was working I pondered the truths of the whole statement. About an hour later I entered my daughter's room to prepare her for school and found her healed. There was not a sign of the pinkeye, and she went to school rejoicing.
