Man Possesses Only What God Imparts

In the Book of James we read (3:11, 12): "Doth a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter? Can the fig tree, my brethren, bear olive berries? either a vine, figs? so can no fountain both yield salt water and fresh."

God, Spirit, is the source of all that is genuine, of all that unfolds in His infinite being. He is man's creator, and man is constituted only of that which is included in God. Man is God's image and likeness and is good, for God is good. Were there any element of evil in God, His creation would reflect that imperfection. But God's goodness and perfection are the substance of creation, including man. These truths of Christian Science are demonstrable in our human affairs to the degree that they are understood and applied.

Man is the perfect emanation or reflection of God. He can be conscious of nothing besides God. Mrs. Eddy says (Science and Health, p. 336): "The spiritual man's consciousness and individuality are reflections of God. They are the emanations of Him who is Life, Truth, and Love." God necessarily imparts to man the qualities and ideas that are essential to man's constantly unfolding identity and individuality.
