The acceptance by my parents...
The acceptance by my parents that God is Love, as taught by Christ Jesus and later by Mrs. Eddy, made my childhood a harmonious experience. Those diseases and accidents which befell us were easily overcome through prayer and quickly forgotten.
The study of Christian Science brought peace, joy, love, health, and abundance to our family. Over thirteen years spent in the Sunday School convinced me of the value of an earnest study of this Science.
But the time comes when each of us must prove its teachings for himself. At the end of my sophomore year in the university, I desired to enter another school to specialize. The secretary of that school took one look at the record of my grades and declared, "You are only an average student." I was refused admittance. However, I had been taught in Sunday School that God is the source of intelligence. This intelligence is reflected in full measure by man, God's spiritual idea. I held to these truths, but no other specific prayerful work was done.
