Activities for the Armed Services

A Christian Fellowship Group at a United States Air Force base invited a Christian Science Minister for the Armed Services to talk to the group on the subject of Christian Science. The gathering met for a dinner of fellowship which was followed by the Minister's talk and a question and answer period. When the meeting drew to a close, the serviceman in charge offered this simple but sincere prayer: "Our Father, this evening we thank You for the food which has nourished our bodies, but much more do we feel grateful for the spiritual food which this devout Christian woman brought us. Bless her, dear God, help her in her work."

The Christian love evident in this prayer and the appreciation of the Minister's efforts have been expressed on other occasions when our Chaplains, Ministers, and Representatives have talked about their religion to groups of non-Scientists. As a consequence of these meetings, audiences have gained a better understanding of Christian Science, and so beliefs of prejudice, ill will, and bigotry, based on ignorance of the teachings of our Church, have been reduced or eliminated. Healings have resulted from these meetings.

Each year our Chaplains, Ministers, and Representatives receive an increasing number of invitations to speak on the subject of Christian Science to groups of non-Scientists in the Armed Forces. Although the majority of these invitations have come from military installations in the United States, some have come from overseas areas—from Europe, England, Malta, Bermuda, Puerto Rico, and the Orient.
