The feast of the dedication (John 10:22)

This feast was commemorative of the rededication of the temple about 164 B.C., following its desecration by the Greeks. Under the name of Hanukkah, the Hebrew word for "dedication," the feast is still observed by the Jews as a festival of lights during their month Chisley, that is, about Christmas time according to the Christian calendar.
