Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy...

Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy was brought to our home in western Canada many years ago by an uncle who had returned from a visit to the United States, where he had heard of Christian Science. He had bought some copies of the textbook. Science and Health, one of which he gave to my mother, because an older sister of mine was suffering from heart trouble that physicians had said was incurable. She was healed through my mother's reading of this textbook.

Often when I had an ailment, my mother would read to me from the textbook this passage (p. 237): "A little girl, who had occasionally listened to my explanations, badly wounded her finger. She seemed not to notice it. On being questioned about it she answered ingenuously, 'There is no sensation in matter.' Bounding off with laughing eyes, she presently added, 'Mamma, my finger is not a bit sore.'"

One day I fell from a second floor hayloft to the ground floor, landing on my head and shoulder and apparently breaking my collarbone. My mother put me to bed, made me comfortable, and began to read the above-quoted passage. She continued to work prayerfully for me; and very soon I was up and went to visit neighbors with my family that evening. No further mention was made of the incident, and I do not recall having any pain.
