My first contact with Christian Science...

My first contact with Christian Science was as a very young Sunday School pupil over fifty years ago. Since that time its healing efficacy has been proved in ways too numerous to mention. The marvelous promise contained in Proverbs (3:5, 6), "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths," has often helped me, as the following experience shows.

We had built a new house, but within a few years its size and distance from the city brought difficulties. When my wife first mentioned selling, I was very much opposed to it, and afterward more difficulties seemed to arise. These, as well as a sense of overwork, brought about a nervous breakdown. For a short time I had medical attention. It was a severe testing time, but when I forsook material means for Christian Science I was healed and able to return to the office in less than two months through the steadfast help of practitioners and of my wife.

During this time it was uncovered that I had a false sense of pride of achievement as an architect who had designed his own home. This wrong sense had dominated my thinking and had produced other undesirable traits of character.
